Miami, FL – The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) has partnered with Primary Flight to create a block-sized mural by Johnny Robles, a Miami-based artist from Latin America at the non-profit organization’s CIFO Art Space. The CIFO Art Wall will be a permanent fixture to the CIFO Art Space, located on the south side of the building, on 10th street.  The mural, made up of abstracted images that represent Florida’s species, will incorporate imagery native to Miami's environment: both natural and urban. As is typical with Robles’ work, the saturated color palette, subject matter, technique and bold themes create a visual spectacle not only for the individual viewer but for the community at large.

Slated for completion in October 2011, CIFO has teamed up with a variety of local groups to bring the community together during the CIFO Art Wall Unveiling. The unveiling will be held at the CIFO Art Space on Saturday, October 15th from 2-5pm, in the form of a block party style celebration free for the whole family. This day time event has been conceived as a way to welcome and engage the local community surrounding the CIFO Art Space, residents throughout Miami Dade County as well as those members of Miami’s art community. Come by for an afternoon of activities for all ages, food trucks and sounds by Keen One.

Artoconecto, a non-profit arts advocacy organization dedicated to creating and promoting unique artistic projects has organized a children’s mural painting workshop led by artist Douglas Hoekzema the day of the unveiling. Hoekzema is a painter, sculptor and designer. This activity will run parallel to an interactive silk screen printing activity for all ages by Like Mike Clothing.

A documentary produced by Luke Alexandre with Last Rights, documenting Johnny Robles’ process throughout the creation of the CIFO Art Wall, will become available in the coming months.

About CIFO

The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 2002 by Ella Fontanals-Cisneros and her family to support artists who are exploring new directions in contemporary art. CIFO fosters cultural understanding and educational exchange through three primary initiatives: a Grants and Commissions Program for emerging and mid-career visual artists from Latin America; an exhibitions program showcasing work by Latin American artists and international contemporary art from the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection at the CIFO Art Space; and foundation-initiated support for other arts and culture projects.

About Primary Flight

Primary Flight is a collaborative curatorial organization dedicated to the production of site-specific, street level, mural installations. The revival of public art over the past 20 years has found an incubator in Miami with Primary Flight, which since 2007 has produced a thoughtful, new brand of outdoor works transcending genres and labels.  Bringing together more than 150 of the world’s most influential artists to install their bodies of work live in the streets of Wynwood, the Design District and greater Miami-Dade, these projects often function as a catalyst for developing arts communities.
