In December 2005, cifo opened its doors, with the first two shows in an ongoing series of exhibitions that will focus upon different aspects of the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection. These exhibitions will be organized with the collaboration of guest curators from around the world.
cifo welcomes the diversity of its cultural surroundings. Our yearly calendar includes of four main exhibitions: our Grants Program exhibition, our Commissions Program exhibition, and two selections from the Ella Fontanals Cisneros Collection, exhibitions that focus on contemporary international art. In addition, cifo will offer an exciting program of conferences, lectures, performances, and concerts.
The Grants and Commissions Program replaces the Residency Program with which cifo initiated its activities as a foundation in 2004. Each year, cifo will hold exhibitions featuring the unique, diverse, and challenging art of Latin American artists (working both in their respective countries and abroad), in an effort to promote this work in Miami and across the United States.
cifo is committed to broadening the global understanding of work by contemporary artists from Latin America, and moving beyond the traditional paradigms and stereotypes associated with Latin American art.
