The Spanish photographer presents a selection of works that are a reflection of the body's social role and dance
Miami, FL - To continue with CIFO's ongoing collaboration with other cultural organizations, the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation and the Spanish Cultural Center present a collection of 35 pieces by the well-known Spanish photographer and photojournalist Isabel Muñoz, on view from September 3 through October 5, 2008 at CIFO Art Space. Other past successful partnerships include The Rhythm Foundation, The Jackson Memorial, The Children's Trust Miami, Creative Children Therapy and Nicolas Felizola.
The works focus on dance as a mechanism of liberation to escape moral repression on traditional society. The images, all of them in black and white, aim to tell a story on the body's condition in our society. They explain a context in which dance, has been for both men and women a way of expressing understated matters, unthinkable thoughts and a vehicle to express ourselves in a different fashion within the same context beyond artistic expression.
In this selection, Muñoz gathers the testimony of several years of work in which she has been all over the world with her camera and has taken advantage to give testimony of the great passion she has for dance. This turns the show into a true retrospective of the artist's work. A selection that summarizes the content of previous works of the photographer from Barcelona, Spain on tango in Buenos Aires, flamenco in Spain or oriental dance in Turkey or Egypt.
The pictures, taken in places from Burkina Fasso to Irán, and Cuba to Buenos Aires, play to confuse the male and female body, highlighting the most characteristic gestures of every place.
Isabel Muñoz has been a photographer for more than 20 years and she is one of the biggest names in contemporary Spanish photography. Her work is present is the most prestigious art institutions of the world such as the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston. She has 10 published books and many articles published and is a two time World Press Photo award recipient.

La fotógrafa española presenta una selección de obras que reflexiona sobre el papel social del cuerpo femenino y el baile
Miami, FL - Continuando las colaboraciones con otras instituciones culturales, la Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation y el Centro Cultural Español presentan un conjunto de 35 obras de la reconocida fotógrafa y fotoperiodista española Isabel Muñoz, que tienen como eje temático el baile como mecanismo de liberación, para escapar de la represión moral de la sociedad tradicional. Esta exposición de fotografía podrá ser vista del 3 de septiembre hasta el 5 de octubre en CIFO Art Space. Otras colaboraciones incluyen The Rhythm Foundation, The Jackson Memorial, The Children's Trust, Creative Children Therapy y Nicolas Felizola.
Las instantáneas quieren trazar una historia, la de la condición del cuerpo en nuestra sociedad. Explican un contexto en el que el baile, más allá de la expresión puramente artística, ha constituido para las mujeres, pero también para los hombres, una manera de decir cosas indecibles, cosas impensables, de expresarse de otro modo en su propio contexto.
En esta selección Muñoz recoge el testimonio de varios años de trabajo en los que ha recorrido el mundo con su cámara, y ha aprovechado para dar testimonio de la gran pasión que en ella despierta el baile. Ello convierte a la muestra en una auténtica retrospectiva de la obra de la artista. Una selección que resume el contenido de trabajos anteriores de la fotógrafa barcelonesa sobre el Tango en Buenos Aires, el flamenco en España o los bailes orientales de Turquía o de Egipto.
Tomadas en lugares que van desde Burkina Fasso a Irán, pasando por Cuba o Buenos Aires, las instantáneas juegan a confundir los cuerpos de hombres y mujeres poniendo el acento en los gestos más característicos de las danzas de cada lugar.
Dedicada a la fotografía por más de 20 años, Isabel Muñoz es un nombre destacado de la fotografía actual española. Su obra está representada en algunos de los centros de arte más prestigiosos como el Contemporary Arts Museum de Houston. Tiene 10 libros y multitud de reportajes publicados y ha sido distinguida en dos ocasiones con el premio World Press Photo.
