Beauty in Ambiguous & Contradictory Images

Mateo Pizarro Cropped

Mateo Pizarro is a Colombian artist who lives and works in Mexico. He is fascinated with images that are ambiguous, contradictory and draws on the beauty that arises from an incomplete drawing.

A Look Inside:

For his next project, Bestiario de Animales Inexistentes, Pizarro will work hand-in-hand with Maria del Mar Gámiz, a student of novohispanas at UNAM (Mexico City). She will collect selected writings from such historians, writers and scholars as: Bernardino de Sahagun, Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo, Juse Durand and Antonio Pigafetta and Pizarro will create a series of fantastic drawings based on the descriptions of each animal.
