Achievement Artist Award

Martha Araújo is a Brazilian artist born in 1943.

Since the early 1980’s Martha Araújo’s work has focused on the limits of the body, understood in its physical, individual sense and its metaphorical, poetic connotations, in which the body is invited to publicly interact with the clothes and objects produced by the artist, and frequently with other people, thus becoming, to all effects, a communal, collective body.

“The main issue for me has always been the “other.” My works are only complete through the “other.” Such is my problem and my redemption.” - Martha Araújo.
