Fortunate Objects

Fortunate Objects

8pub

This catalogue was published on the occasion of “Fortunate Objects,” an exhibition including selections from the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection which appropriate, recreate or reinterpret everyday objects.

It proposes a playful, imaginative, curious and unexpected approach to objects used in daily life and presents work by international, emerging, and established artists from different generations in various media, ranging from the monumental to the intimate. Including an explanatory essay by curator Cecilia Fajardo-Hill, this publication provides a concise overview of how objects in art have shifted from being minor and limited subjects to occupying protagonist roles in the center of experimentation and revolt against academicism. The essay is divided into four sections to allow for a dialectical exploration of historical issues concerning the object in art: The Still Life; The Machine; Dada, Duchamp, and the Readymade; and the Politics of the Everyday.
