Unsaid/Spoken
This catalogue was published on the occasion of “Unsaid/Spoken,” an exhibition including selections from both the Ella Fontanals-Cisneros Collection and the CIFO Collection. According to the curators, CIFO’s Curatorial Award recipients, Moacir dos Anjos and José Roca, “this exhibition brings together work that testifies to the tension between what is yet to be said (or cannot be uttered) and the aftermath of communication, when all has been said and done. Silenced speech, timid elocutions, unintelligible languages, unknown codes, forgotten tongues, the somewhat obscure discourse of science, censorship, and repression, slowly give way to murmurs, connections, bridges, open conversations and conclusive statements.
Following an intuitive process of formal association and conceptual juxtaposition, the show intends to be seen as an exercise in curatorial collaboration.” The artists include Tatiana Blass (Brazil), Mira Schendel (Brazil), Ana Maria Maiolino (Brazil), Johanna Calle (Colombia), Detanico / Lain (Brazil), Ícaro Zorbar (Colombia), Pablo Helguera (Mexico), Los Carpinteros (Cuba), Doug Aitken (USA), Antonio Vega Macotela (Mexico), Rivane Neuenschwander (Brazil), Mark Dion (USA), Julieta Aranda (Mexico), Franz Erhard Walther (Germany), Chantal Akerman (Belgium), Carlos Garaicoa (Cuba), Felipe Dulzaides (Cuba), Gabriel Orozco (Mexico), Damián Ortega (Mexico), Francis Alys (Mexico), Félix González-Torres (Cuba), Rafael Lozano-Hemmer (Mexico), Tamar Guimaraes (Brazil) and Joseph Griguely (USA).
