Carlos Garaicoa
Carlos Garaicoa is a Cuban artist who lives and works in Havana. Garaicoa uses his fascination of the ruins of Havana to create his art through drawing, photographs, and mixed-media and video installations. In his process, he also draws on and is critical of the popular notion of Havana as a picturesque yet decaying city in which time has halted. His deep interest in ruins and architecture extends internationally at times, to show that the same conditions exist worldwide. Gairacoa has exhibited at various renowned spaces and shows, including the Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid), 26th Bienal de São Paulo, 51st Venice Bienniale, MoMA (New York), The Tate Museum (Liverpool), the Guggenheim (New York) and many others.
