Ramón Castillo

Ramón Castillo was born in Chile and is the Director of the school of art at the Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago, Chile. He began his career in art when he studied Visual Arts Education at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile (PUC) in Temuco. Between 1990 and 1991, he obtained a degree in Aesthetics from the PUC in Santiago. From 1993 to 1999, he taught as a Professor at the Institute of Aesthetics at PUC. From 1994 until 2010, he worked as the Assistant Director and Curator of Contemporary Art at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes under Milan Ivelic.

In 1997, he was invited by the Agency of Information Services of America to learn about museums and art projects in the United States. Since 1990, his work has been included in numerous critical texts of catalogs and magazines in Chile and abroad. In 2000, he received a grant from the government of Chile to study and to obtain his Ph.D. in Art History in Barcelona, Spain. In 2003, he won a contest called Concurso de Proyectos Artísticos en el Extranjero, which was organized by the Dirección de Asuntos Culturales (DIRAC). He was the curator of the exhibition Open Cube, which was presented in London in 2012 as part of the Pinta Art Fair that contained works by artists like Matilde Pérez. In 2012, he later curated the exhibition Matilde X Matilde at the Fundación Telefónica.
