In Transition
CIFO Grants & Commissions Program Exhibition
September 2 - November 7, 2010
In Transition: The 2010 CIFO Grants and Commissions Program Exhibition, our seventh dedicated to the foundation's programs at the CIFO Art Space, is a celebration of diversity in contemporary art. This showcase features new works by this year's mid-career Commission recipients, Marco Maggi and Elida Tessler, alongside emerging Grant recipients Tatiana Blass, Eugenia Calvo, Runo Lagomarsino, Gisela Motta/Leandro Lima, Jorge Pedro Nuñez, and Gabriel Sierra. Each artist brings a unique perspective, promising a rich and varied experience for our audience.
As with previous program exhibitions, the selected projects are not bound by a specific curatorial theme. However, despite the artists' diverse generations and geographic backgrounds, a common thread unites their works—a thread that weaves small conversations into a larger dialogue about the practices defining contemporary art today. Each piece reflects a transformation between varying states or perceptions, offering a series of transitions or insights into ongoing processes.
Tatiana Blass's installation and Eugenia Calvo's videos reinterpret the physicality of objects. In contrast, Jorge Pedro Nuñez and Runo Lagomarsino's installations engage with abstraction and the narrative's historical trajectory and implications. Marco Maggi and Elida Tessler adopt a process-oriented approach to explore the passage of time and the transformative qualities of their mediums. Gabriel Sierra also employs a process in his site-specific installation that challenges viewers' perceptions of space by incorporating elements beyond the traditional gallery context. Similarly, Gisela Motta and Leandro Lima create fabricated landscapes that distort reality, fostering a shift in perception within the viewer's mind.
This exhibition captures the essence of transformation and dialogue that characterizes contemporary art, inviting audiences to engage with the dynamic interplay of ideas and processes.
