Interrogating Systems

The exhibition delves into diverse and complex themes through innovative drawing, installation, painting, and video forms. Mid-career Commission Program artists Pablo Cardoso and Federico Herrero each present large-scale painting installations. Cardoso explores the 'fictions' involved in landscape representation, while Herrero engages in a dialectical exchange between high art and the popular painting found in urban contexts.

CIFO Grants & Commissions Program Exhibition

April 25 - June 22, 2008

The Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation proudly presents Interrogating Systems, an exhibition featuring works from its 2008 Grants and Commissions Programs. This marks the first time CIFO showcases pieces from award recipients of both programs in a single exhibition.

True to the spirit of CIFO's Grants and Commissions Program exhibitions, the selected artists are a diverse group, each with their unique approach. While they don't adhere to a curatorial framework, they all share a practice of questioning, inquiry, and transgression. This can manifest as a nuanced social critique, as seen in the works of Johanna Calle, Jonathan Harker, and Moris. Other artists, such as Federico Herrero, Mateo López, Amílcar Lucien Packer Yessouroun, and Francisco Valdés, challenge established notions of normality and common sense. Pablo Cardoso, Daniel Medina, and Luis Romero propose new cartographies that embrace the complexities of representing reality. Additionally, Alejandro Almanza Pereda and Ícaro Zorbar Sánchez Laverde reflect on the precariousness and fragility of objects.
